Creative Philanthropy

BeteBuddies is a 501c3 non-profit organization I created to raise money to purchase insulin pumps for youth with Type I Diabetes who are candidates for an insulin pump and do not have insurance coverage for a pump and cannot afford a pump that cost from $4,000-$8,000.  Without a pump, this requires the use of syringes to self-inject life-saving insulin multiple times daily and nightly.

BeteBuddies was inspired by my son’s diagnoses when he was 10-years old, and after 6 months of using syringes, he was a candidate for a pump.  At the time, the pump was $5,000 and only partially covered by health insurance.  I wonder how many kids at the time had to say, “No thank you, I will continue using 6-10 syringes every day, and sometimes in the middle of the night”.

I’m not sure how many youth are in this situation every year, but we are raising money for one Bete-Buddy now, and you can help!
